The Lemaire family began cultivation of vines in Damery and Cumieres in 1890 and in 1947 Henri and his wife Mariette, created the first Champagnes under the label Henri Lemaire.
The house passed from father to son and is now run by Nathalie Lemaire and her husband Pascal Guillenmot. The vines are planted over 6 Hectares and the Cumieres parcels are in the Premier Cru.
The vineyards are cultivated under ‘culture raisonnée’ and everything is done by the family from the beginning to the end of the process.
The house is situated in Damery where Nathalie and Pascal oversee everything. They are extremely passionate about what they do and put their heart and soul into everything they do for the House.
The house next door is Lemaire Fourny, another off-shoot of the Lemaire family married into the Fourny family from the Cotes des Blancs, famous for the Veuve Fourny label.
These Champagnes are all excellent, made with great joy and passion. Their son is coming into the business after studying in wineries around the world and went to school with, and is still great friends with, Vincent Delouvin from Champagne Emile Leclere. I imagine the label is in safe hands!
